Stoves for Smoke Control Areas

Introduced to deal with the smogs of the 1950s and 1960s, which were caused by the widespread burning of coal for domestic heating and by industry, the Clean Air Acts gave local authorities powers to control emissions of smoke, dust and fumes and to declare smoke control areas in which emissions of smoke from domestic properties are banned. As a result, smoke control areas were established in many large towns and cities in the UK. Earlier Acts, together with other associated clean air legislation, were consolidated into the Clean Air Act 1993.

If you do not know whether you live in a smoke control area then you can check with your local council or visit www.uksmokecontrolareas.co.uk.

As long as you burn only authorised smokeless fuels, you can purchase any Dovre multi-fuel stove for use in a smoke control area. A list of these fuels can be found by visiting www.uksmokecontrolareas.co.uk.

Certain appliances are capable of burning unauthorised fuel in Smoke Control areas as they can do-so without emitting smoke. If you prefer to burn logs as they are both carbon neutral and a renewable source of energy then the following Dovre woodburning stoves have been approved for use in smoke control areas:

Whatever your choice, Dovre have clean burning, high efficiency stoves to meet not only your demands but those of the environment too.
